I have to say, I disagree about Mastodon, though. Christ, you think Crack the Skye is beating metal to death? It's probably got the least "overwhelming" low end of anything Mastodon's ever released. Agree to disagree I guess. Anyway, you're definitely right that Blue Record is a brilliant album, and yeah it's probably even a little bit better than Crack the Skye (the only other metal album, aside from parts of the Pelican record that really got me excited this year). I really enjoy how it is an album that flows from start to finish.
