Haha, Green LP is a pretty good bet, but I'm still holding out for "Fuchsia 8-Track" or "Gold Lamé Laserdisc."

Very nice review. I have to say, I disagree about Mastodon, though. Christ, you think Crack the Skye is beating metal to death? It's probably got the least "overwhelming" low end of anything Mastodon's ever released. Agree to disagree I guess. Anyway, you're definitely right that Blue Record is a brilliant album, and yeah it's probably even a little bit better than Crack the Skye (the only other metal album, aside from parts of the Pelican record that really got me excited this year). Suffice it to say, I'm reeeeally looking forward to their next one. I'm taking bets on the name...Green LP?

Hmm I disagree with this entire list.
IMO, firstly, Iron Maiden's three new albums DEFINITELY deserve some recognition, if not, Bruce Dickinson's new album.

If you wanna step outside the metal box, what about Carrie Underwood's three albums? They're amazing as well.

Alice in Chains recently created a magnificent album. So did Slayer. And Mastodon. And we certainly couldn't forget Chinese Democracy by GNR.

Shit, I guess I just thought every Georgia metal band was from Savannah because of Baroness and Kylessa. I can't believe I messed that up. Anyway, thanks for the feedback, it is much appreciated.

I liked your review and love the album. I really enjoy how it is an album that flows from start to finish.

For the record both bands are from Georgia, but Mastodon is from Atlanta while Baroness hail from Savannah

There is NO WAY the best debut of 2008 was not Titus Andronicus' The Airing of Grievances. That's it and that's all.

I think 11/24 is the tenative date for the Flaming Lips LP.

And there was a brief moment where some copies of No Control were around, but I don't think it was a repressing, I think they were unearthed in the Epitaph warehouse. It looks like the Epitaph store (http://www.kingsroadmerch.com/epitaph-records/?id=19) has Suffer and No Control on black vinyl for pretty cheap.

Any word on when the new Flaming Lips will be available on vinyl? Also, did they ever repress the older Bad Religion albums (Suffer, No Control, Against The Grain)?

I really, really miss coming in there. :(

I appreciate the comments. I certainly didn't write this list as a "definitive" best albums of the decade (in fact, lists are only fun because they continually evolve based on who writes them, and when). It was just my personal list with recommendations.

I can agree with the "Radiohead reinterpreting Radiohead" criticism of In Rainbows, except I see it as a good thing! As much as I like records on which bands "push their sound forward" (or "evolve", or "step out of their comfort zone", etc.), I have a soft spot for albums where a band hangs around on a creative plateau (it may not come as a surprise that Magical Mystery Tour is one of my favorite Beatles' albums, and that I really like Wilco's latest).

As for the Spoon pick, I have greatly enjoyed every album they put out this decade, and felt that they deserved to be on the list based that consistency. I don't think any of their albums will be ranked this high in other end-of-decade lists, so I figured I might as well be the one giving them a bump. As for you not liking them... have you heard 2001's Girls Can Tell? It's far from a flawless record, but it contains many of their best songs. If "Everything Hits at Once" and "Lines in the Suit" don't do it for you, I have nothing else to recommend: staying away from them may be the way to go.

Last but not least: I would personally be glad to see more lists posted on this website! I love seeing/reading others' perspective on music, and oftentimes wish more people would take the time and energy to put them in the ever-controversial list format (which I am partial to, mostly because a lot of thought has to go into it in order for you to not look back and regret it in a year's time).
